A Dream of Spring

February 2nd, 2010

All Nature seems at work. Slugs leave their lair –

The bees are stirring -birds are on the wing –

And Winter slumbering in the open air,

Wears on his smiling face a dream of Spring!

And I the while, the sole unbusy thing,

Nor honey make, nor pair, nor build, nor sing.

Yet well I ken the banks where amaranths blow,

Have traced the fount whence streams of nectar flow.

Bloom, O ye amaranths! bloom for whom ye may,

For me ye bloom not! Glide, rich streams, away!

With lips unbrightened, wreathless brow, I stroll:

And would you learn the spells that drowse my soul?

Work without Hope draws nectar in a sieve,

And Hope without an object cannot live.

Remember all, winter can’t last forever. Are your green thumbs feeling itchy yet?

Work Without Hope by Samuel Taylor Coleridge

🙂 this was so nice. I was watching Groundhog Day (the movie with Bill Murray) and he recited an excerpt of this in it. So I looked up the whole thing, and found this ^_^ hope you don’t mind me sharing 🙂 loved this post.

I can’t wait for spring. Once I start the first seedlings (onions in January) I feel like spring is just around the corner, though it isn’t exactly but I can feel it!

    Hi, Chris,

Your pictures make me long for spring all the more. They are beautiful. Looking out my window at the snow and greyness of winter, it is hard to believe that my garden will ever bloom again! But I guess it won’t be too much longer now. I found some more bulbs starting to come up today.

Wow, so beautiful crocus. Your pics are amazing. My green fingers are itchy too. Oh and a question, what happens with last years planted crocus, I mean they flowered last spring, will they again? (never grown them before, sorry if it sounds silly 🙂
