Are mushrooms a good thing to throw in the compost pile? I have a lot of wild mushrooms growing around my apartment, but am not sure about how beneficial they are for adding nutrients to the compost. I know fungus is good for breaking down lignocellulosic content like rotting wood, etc., but I am more interested in the nutritious content of the mushrooms themselves as I could fill a significant portion of the compost bin with just mushrooms. If they are a good thing, then would they fall under the high in nitrogen or high in carbon category? Thanks.
