    Default problem ficus tree

We are in the process of landscaping our back yard. The problem is that there is a GIANT ficus tree that is dropping berries in an area that we were really hoping to make use of (about 3/4 of the yard). It literally covers the ground at times. At the moment it is mostly dirt so we were considering extending an already exisiting recycled concrete patio or just more plants that would do well in shade. Either way the berries would make a sitting area pretty messy and would make garden area extremely difficult to maintain. If anyone has any ideas on how to take advantage of this space, that would be great. Thanks!

    Default berries cause a mess

Have you considered a gazebo so that you could sit under the roof? Or a garden tent with open sides? Place stepping stones to keep your feet out of the berries.

This is a perfect location for a bird sanctuary. Birds also leave droppings around their bird feeders, so you might want to hang them from the tree. It is good to get squirrel-proof bird feeders. You would need to plant nesting bushes and vines for the birds as well.

You have a wonderful opportunity to create an incredible garden. Have fun!
