Default Help! WHat flower is this?

    HI

I just bought my house and I have three huge bushes of these beautiful flowers. I didn't take a picture of them in bloom but I want to get them ready for the next bloom and want to know how to care for them. If any one can help please let me know! The flower when it blooms looks like a stargazer, bright red and orange. WP_20130713_002.jpg

these are daylilies good news is you really can't kill it and a clump that big can be dug up and divided up in to several plants : )

With scapes that tall they might be ditch lilies. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemerocallis_fulva

Which makes it slightly different from other daylilies, namely it spreads more and becomes a little invasive, but yes, very hard to kill.

The other posters are right-- they are Day Lilies (Hemerocallis botanical name). They are very messy, high-maintenance plants. The reason that they are called "Day Lilies" is because the bloom only lasts about a day before it starts to shrivel up. SO, technically you could be out there every day snapping off the dead bloom, and yanking the dead leaves from the base of the plant.

They will need to be cut to the ground in the fall and should sprout fresh foliage for you in the early spring.
