Thread: Proper planting procedure

    Default Proper planting procedure

I've planted red clover over a portion of my garden. I tilled the soil and then scattered the seeds, and then watered the seed and soil well. Should I have raked the area lightly after planting the seeds? Or should I have raked and then tamped the area somewhat to press the seed into the soil? (or both)

I'm relying on memories from childhood for this stuff, and I'm not sure of some of my planting procedures, in general. Is there a guide or reference somewhere for seed planting procedures?

Thanks in advance for any insight on this question.

Do not rake after watering, also I wouldn't worry about tamping down. Watering the soil will compress it enough. Raking prior to watering might have been a good idea, but not after. Germination could have started by now.
