Description}: Picture of my holding my world record giant amaranth. This amaranth was listed in the 2009 Guinness Book of World Records as the world's tallest Amaranthus. The record broke the previous record of 15 feet 1 inch held by David Brenner. My record was later broken by a friend in New York, Jesse Eldrid, with a 27 feet 10 inch tall plant. I'm attempting to get my record back. I grew a 24 feet 4 inch plant in 2009; so I'm getting closer.

Description}: The tallest amaranth grew over 23 feet tall and was listed in the 2009 Guinness Book of World Records as the tallest Amaranthus. Amaranth pictured is a Amaranthus australis or commonly called the 'giant amaranth' or 'southern amaranth'. This amaranth is an annual and a native of the south eastern United States and grows to an enormous size. Capable of reaching nearly 30 feet tall in the wild. These plants can produce enormous hollow stalks that I've seen as large as 6 feet in circumference. Grown in Ewing, NJ in 2007.

The corn is a mixture of tropical types (olotillo-tuxpeno from Mexico, Uchima Grande from Ecuador, Tehua from Mexico, etc.) and the amaranth plants are a a mix of giant amaranth (Amaranthus australis) and tidalmarsh X giant amaranth hybrids (A. cannabinus X A. australis), and one red Amaranthus hybridus.
