I've got some pretty well established Barberry bushes at the side of my house and I desperately want to get rid of them and put something else in there. Other than the painstaking labor of digging them out, are there any other methods that would work?

Hi Pasusan.

I'm not sure if this advice is too late in coming, but have you tried the weed wrench? They might be a little pricey, but they do work when you want to yank a woody plant out of the ground with minimal soil disturbance.

I once had to cut back a barberry bush to have siding work done.

I cut it down to the soil, shot it up with roundup, and took an axe to the root structure.

It came back.

There's really no substitute for digging it out, except hiring someone to do it for you.
