My Father-in-law passed 1 yr ago. We will have to sell his home along with the wonderful orange trees soon. In his memory, I am trying to grow trees for his son and daughter. So far, i have got 5-6 stalks of 7-9" plants to grow from some of his oranges' seeds. What do I graft to them to make them bear fruit?

You take scions (growing tips from the fruit bearing tree) but they have to be pretty darn close to the same exact diameter of your root stock for grafting to be successful if you're doing a whip graft. There are a couple of grafting methods that you can use. I'll post a pic of a diagram.. My favorite method is the cleft graft which is figure C in the diagram. But you want to use this special green tape for grafting that you can purchase from your local nursery. I forgot the name of it, but just ask the clerk for some grafting tape. Also, you can melt a bit of parrafin wax to further seal the graft site before taping to create a secure seal for better healing.380
